Adult Dance Classes
We're so excited to see our adult dance program continue to grow. We currently offer Ballroom, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Pilates and Yoga and have had requests for Modern and Jazz for adults.
It's inspiring to see adults who haven't danced in years or have never taken a dance class follow their passion. We love dance and are excited to share it with everyone!
Thinking of joining one of our adult classes? Our two most frequently asked questions are:
1. What do I wear?
While we do have a strict dress code for our school-aged dancers, we are very flexible with our adult students. We understand you may not feel comfortable in a leotard and tights or ballroom heels and that is no problem. For many of our adult classes students wear yoga pants and a tank top. We just ask that you don't wear jeans or anything too baggy.
2. Can I drop in to a class?
Absolutely! Want to just try one class before committing to signing up or aren't sure if you're beginning or intermediate level? No problem. We offer a $15 drop in fee for all of our adult classes.
To see our complete list of adult classes, please visit: www.MetroDanceCompany.com/Classes_For_Adults
Hope to see in class you soon!

Halloween Week Fun!
It's that time of year again! Our dance students and staff are invited to celebrate Halloween this week by dressing up in their best Halloween or old dance costumes.
Ms Mimi stole the show on Monday by dressing as Ms Laura in cargo pants, a t shirt, pigtails and a bandana. One of Ms Laura's students actually thought Ms Mimi was his teacher!
We can't wait to see everyone's creativity the rest of the week. Happy Halloween!
What has been your favorite costume this week?

Brand New to Dance Lessons?
Brand New to Dance Lessons?
Let us help answer some of our most frequently asked questions
Q: What are your prices?
Regular dance classes start at just $44 per month for one class per week.Q: Where are you located? We are located on the northeast corner of Mill (Lilley) and Ann Arbor Trail, just east of downtown Plymouth. Our dance studio is easily accessible from Livonia, Northville and Canton.
Q: Why does my child have to conform to a specific dress code?
For proper dance education, it is important that all students dress in the appropriate attire for each specific class. Ballet in particular involves very detailed body movements and placement. Having all students dressed to a standard makes it possible for the instructor to more easily notice incorrect positions and movements to make the appropriate corrections before any "bad habits" are formed.
Q: What are your typical class sizes?
We limit the size of all of our classes based on the age and ability of the students to insure that each student receives the highest quality of dance education. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are missed. Combo 1 and Combo 2 classes (ages 2-5) are limited to 10 students per class and our Level 1 and Level 2 classes (ages 6-9) are limited 10 students per class. Most Combo 1, Combo 2, Level 1 and Level 2 also have a teacher's assistant each week. All other recital and technique classes are limited to 14 students per class.
Q: Do you have a recital?
Yes, we offer a recital in June each year. Our recitals are stress-free and FUN!
Q: Are there any additional costs?
Each student is required to purchase a costume for the recital which costs $65/class.
Q: Can I take pictures during the recital?
No, picture taking during the production is not only discourteous to other audience members, it is very distracting and dangerous to the performers on stage. Picture and video taking is allowed during the full dress rehearsal prior to the recital. A professional videographer will have DVDs of the entire performance for sale.
Q: Are you closed for vacations or during holidays?
We typically follow the Plymouth-Canton schedule. A list of all important dates, including studio closures are provided for each student in September. All important upcoming dates are also listed on our website home page.
Q: Do I pay the same amount per month even when there are fewer classes?
Yes. For our fall season we charge the same tuition over 10 equal monthly installments September – June. The calendar in each month will vary depending upon which day you have your class with classes meeting from 2 to 5 times each month. Every class will meet 35 times over the ten months.
Q: How old does my child need to be to take dance classes?
Students can start as young as 2 1/2 in our Combo 1 class.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
No, tuition is paid on a month-to-month basis. At the time of registration if you opt for automatic monthly payments from your debit card or credit card we do require notice by the 25th of the previous month to avoid being charged for the upcoming month’s tuition.
Q: What dance styles do you teach?
Our current class schedule includes Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Pointe, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern, Pom, Cheer, Preschool Combo, Yoga, Pilates, Ballroom, Cecchetti and Adult classes.
Q: What experience do your instructors have?
All of our classes are taught by trained instructors over the age of 18. Some classes may also include an assistant under the direction of the instructor.

Yes! We offer group ballroom lessons for teens and adults. Private lessons, and wedding or special event choreography is also available.
Q: Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, we offer private lessons by appointment.

New Ballroom Classes Added for the Fall Dance Season
Group ballroom classes have just been added to the fall dance schedule at Metro Dance Company in Plymouth MI. Due to high demand, teen ballroom and adult ballroom group lessons are now available year-round at the studio.
Teen ballroom meets each Saturday September - June. Students learn the basics of swing, salsa, rhumba, waltz, tango and prepare a dance for the annual end of year performance. A competitive teen ballroom class is also set to start in September for serious dancers with ballroom experience. We also offer private ballroom lessons and choreography lessons for teens participating in pageants or who prefer a certain lesson time or style.
Adult ballroom classes are broken down in to 8-week sessions and participants are given the chance to start in the beginning class or a more intermediate class depending on their comfort level. Both classes include salsa, swing, cha cha, rhumba, waltz, foxtrot and tango. Beginning Adult Ballroom begins in September and Intermediate Adult Ballroom begin in November. 8-week sessions in latin dancing and swing dancing are also available at times throughout the year.
The great thing about all our ballroom classes is YOU DON'T NEED A PARTNER. The classes are about learning the basics and the style of the dance, so if you don't have a partner, it's no problem.
The studio will also continue to offer private/semi-private ballroom lessons for those interested in wedding choreography (bride and groom, daddy/daughter, wedding party, etc), husbands or wives looking for a great gift idea or couples looking for a night out.

Four Things Every Parent Should Know Before Choosing A Dance Studio
If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers, experience teaching children and a big show at the end of the year, aren’t they all pretty much the same? Does it really matter which place you decide to enroll at? Yes. There are 4 main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives and the overall enjoyment and satisfaction of being involved with a dance program. Here are 4 things that every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio.
1. WHAT TYPE OF DANCE FLOOR IS USED?
Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “floating floor.” A floating floor is a dance floor which “gives” on a system of high-density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. Very few studios use professional floors because of the expense involved, and usually opt for a regular tile floor. Our specialized floors help reduce the risk of injuries and allow students to dance longer without getting tired.
2. WHAT IS THE SIZE OF THE CLASS?
If the dance class has fewer students, each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed and allows our teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique. We also have advanced dance students working as teacher assistants to help our teachers with younger classes.
3. CAN I GET IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE?
In many studios the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration. By trying to do two jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studio has office staff on hand during all regular class times, so you can get immediate assistance.
4. WHAT IS THE STUDIO ENVIRONMENT?
We are committed to providing safe and quality instruction to children and adults of all ages and skill levels. We have a relaxed, family friendly environment and offer students a choice of technique, recital and/or competitive dance classes. We teach our students about teamwork, having a positive attitude, eating healthy and setting goals. Our studio is a home away from home and we consider our dancers a part of our extended family.

Valentine's Day at the Studio
By: Kristie Wyler
To help us celebrate Valentine's Day this year, all the dancers and teachers decorated a heart and added it to the studio lobby wall. Here's how it looks so far!
Great job everyone!
Don't miss the red, pink and silver wrapped Hershey Hugs at the front desk. Get them before they're gone!
